Garage to Studio

This project was certainly a labor of love! My wife had gotten into running, but we didn't have a spot in the house for her treadmill, so each morning at 5 AM, no matter how cold it was, she would march out to the un-heated garage and run for an hour before the kids got up. One morning it was so cold that the treadmill froze up and wouldn't start, so I decided it was time to convert the cold, mouse-infested garage space into a warm, usable oasis for my sweetie.

Working full days this project took about three weeks, start to finish. I had to create a floating, insulated floor and install laminate flooring on top, insulate all the walls, build shelving and storage, hang drywall, mud, tape, and paint. I also had to hang a ceiling and wire in new lights, electrical outlets, and switches. I added some small windows for natural light, and a new propane heater to keep the place warm in the winter.

Suffice to say, the treadmill hasn't frozen up since the remodel. Happy wife, happy life!
